Universal House Show Segment
A "house of the future" was recently unveiled in Mechanicsville, VA (near Richmond). Using a relatively new concept called universal design, the home is architecturally designed to allow people to age in place and stay independent for as long as possible. Some features of the universal design inlcude: pull-down kitchen shelves, fold-up shower seat, steps with wider tread, and multi-height kitchen counters that can accommodate a wheelchair. AARP is sponsor of this home and says the goal of this home is to make it the standard fro new homes and for modification of existing ones. Contact AARP for more information about this design by Architect Rick Millard.
